What is an apprentice? It is someone learning how to do a specialized job with “on the job” training and development under the guidance of an experienced work colleague.
This could be any member of staff, including contractors, but the role involves tasks such as adhering to workplace procedures, following health and safety guidance, updating training records, and completing tasks to gain a qualification as well as often attending a College Placement usually 1 day per week in many fields.
The importance of an apprenticeship is to gain experience in the working world / environment that you are interested in and can show your employers that you are keen to learn and a place to showcase and practice your skills, whilst gaining more and more confidence in what you do and ultimately getting paid to learn.
We have taken on an apprentice this year, Jack Pascoe, and already in his first week, in his own words, I have learned more in this week than I have in my full-time spent at college! This type of one-to-one learning can prove invaluable to many and as an apprentice, it not only offers you experience whilst fulfilling structured training, you will learn everyday people skills too. Jack studies once a week at Cornwall College in Camborne – Level 3 Electrical Maintenance & Installation and is a very keen individual and we are very pleased that Jack has joined our company and we look forward to following him on a successful apprenticeship journey.
